Port Washington State Forest
Point Washington State Forest is made up of 10 natural communities. The majority of the area consists of sandhill, basin swamp, wet flatwoods/prairies and cypress swamps. There are some excellent examples of intact sandhill ecosystems even though much of the park has been cut over.
Several plants and animals that are listed as threatened or endangered species list can be found in the forest, including the American kestrel, gopher tortoise, flatwoods salamander and the largest population of Curtiss sandgrass.
